Improvising with Scores

Visual scores have always been a way for me to document, recreate and create performance. This resulted in Dance Artist Viola Dröse asking me to be a part of her artistic research for her final paper whilst at the Danish School for Performing Arts.

This collaboration then evolved and took the form of ChangeMeMoveMe; An improvised performance based upon visual scores drawn by Viola.

The final version invited the audience to be an interactive part of the performance by asking them, at any point in the proceedings, to change the score. To do this, an audience member must walk into the performance area and push the button lying on the floor at the centre of the stage. A random score is then projected onto the wall of the space, initiating a new improvisation.

The sound created for the performances was a real time manipulation of my voice using Max/MSP.
